XP upgrade & CD burner Puzzle

Windows media player could not find my NEC 7500 cd burner; the system list said burner was loaded and operating properly. I deleted the cd burner restarted computer and system recognized new hardware and installed. Still Windows media player gave error message no burner device found. I then downloaded a trial copy of Roxio.

I did not open the Roxio file; if I go to remove software the Roxio program is not even listed. HOWEVER, Windows media player now recognizes my CD burner. How is this possible??? I have already deleted once already the roxio file to install and I wind up back at square one. Any replies would be appreciated.
