TAIPEI, Nov 26 (Reuters) - Taiwan stocks edged higher in early trade on Monday as the heavily weighted tech shares tracked gains in their U.S. counterparts.
By 0131 GMT, or half an hour after trade began, the benchmark TAIEX <.TWII> index was up 52.33 points or 1.16 percent to 4,571.41, extending a 1.55 percent rise in the previous session.
"Sentiment remained strong because buying in tech stocks continued," said Justin Lin, analyst at MasterLink Investment Advisory.
The dominant electronics sub-index <.TELI> rose 1.17 percent, taking its cue from a 1.5 percent gain on the tech-laced Nasdaq composite index <.IXIC> on Friday.
Turnover remained light at T$24.71 billion, reflecting the cautious mood before the Dec 1 parliamentary and mayoral elections.
A range between 4,400-4,700 points is expected for the main index before elections, said Lin. |
