The US lobby of lumber barons has much to do with Washington looking after "good old boys" like former president Jimmy Carter. He owns wood lots and mills that haven't been upgraded since the 1960's. No wonder he can't compete against Canadian lumber produced in the most modern and productive mills in the world. In fact, by not investing in modernizing or replacing his board mills to stay competative on the world stage, he no longer deserves to be in business. American can't hide behind a strong dollar and tarrifs forever. Sooner or later America is going to have to become more productive and competative and this will mean investing in modernization to put America back on a competative footing. Unfortunately, it probably won't happen until the almighty US buck falls out of bed. IMO, the US dollar has been way over valued for too long.
