LONDON, Nov 26 (Reuters) - European shares looked set for a firmer open on Monday, underpinned by strong U.S. gains on Friday amid hopes the world's largest economy is stabilising.

Banks were an early focus as more merger speculation gripped the influential sector.

Shares in Swiss airline Crossair <CROZn.S> will be under pressure after 24 people were killed when a Crossair airliner crashed in bad weather on its approach to Zurich on Sunday.

Anglo-Norwegian construction and engineering firm Kvaerner <KVI.OL> may get a lift from news it has secured cash to avert imminent collapse as the company struggles to put together a longer-term bailout in time for a shareholder vote on Thursday.
