Do you have two phone lines? The cable company gives a discount on cable tv for cable modem users which makes my cable connection very little more than cable tv would be plus a second phone line and AOL. Of course, you can always go the net zero route. I will NEVER EVER go back to a crappy dial up service (which I considered to be adequate until I got the broadband connection) or buy a home without a connection set up the day I move in, EVER. Those who don't have broadband don't know what they are missing. Kind of like someone who has never had a game platform now getting all excited about it. They didn't know what they were missing in the past. Welcome to the present. What took ya all so long to get here?
