College football is an incredible mess and all out of whack. I could almost go for a full blown playoff system, except I don't know where you draw the line in how big to make the tournament. 8 teams? Division 1AA, 2 and 3 tourneys field 8 teams with very little complaining, but there's no huge amounts of money involved there. In Division 1A, it would be best to bite the bullet and simply open it up to 64 teams.

Frankly, I don't care who is #1. I liked it when winning the conference and getting an invitation to a major bowl was enough of a goal for a team. I saw a show on ESPN yesterday where the NCAA is effectively letting the schools police themselves. If that's the case, then the time has come to enact a professional system where you allow institutions of lower learning, such as Miami, the option of fielding a team of players who do not pretend to be students. If it's money driven, just go all out.

Except for a little spring time rowing, I now ignore everything but college football and thoroughbred racing. I feel very sorry for the kids today who will never know what big time sport was like before it was corrupted by money.

In fact, my only interest in what's left of the college football season is GO ARMY ! BEAT NAVY !
