What on earth are you talking about? The U.S. government has nothing to say in this matter. It is true, that Microsoft could withdraw from Europe (if that is what you mean), but any threat about that would be the end of European sales. The US government will never intervene in such a matter. Bush may not have invented the wheel, but he doesn't have suicidal tendencies. Right now it is hard for many Europeans to understand, why Microsoft has special monopoly protection not enjoyed by European companies. This will change.
< No the US can unilateral impose a siginificant amout of tariff on a number of European goods

and products that will virtually drive them out of the US market if they found the US companies being treat unfairly by the European. You can check back to the Banana War a few months back that US imposed over a billion dollars tariff on the European luxury items. Eventually, that the European had to back down and allow the Central and SOuth American banana comes in Europe at the same tarriff as the Carribean countries. That is to response to the Central and SOuth American banana (the US company Dole has a minor stake in it ). Just think if the European impose 1 billion Euro fine to Microsoft, I would not be surprised to see the US response by impose 5-10 billions US dollars on Luxury car and Electronic products on European makers like Mercedes, BMW, Rover, Audi, Phillips, Nokia. then you will see how fast thing would be reversed. Mario Monte does not have the final word on anything.

Monte pissed off Bush on the GE-Honeywell deal already, Bush won't take anymore from Monte. Just ask the Talibans the price to piss off Bush.
