JK Rowling set to become wealthiest writer
Nov 26, 2001 (M2 Best Books via COMTEX) -- JK Rowling, the creator of the Harry
Potter series, may become the wealthiest name in literature.
Rowling, who has sold 124m books worldwide, will reportedly receive more money
from merchandising than she will earn from author's royalties. In addition to a
down-payment of GBP40m, the author earns 5p (GBP0.05) for every GBP1-worth of
Harry Potter merchandise sold.
On top of the merchandising and book royalties, Rowling is believed to be
receiving 1% of the box-office takings of the new Harry Potter film, in addition
to a down-payment of several million dollars for the film rights, reported The
Sunday Times.
