What is sepsis? In case I get it, I'd like to know to recognize it so I can quiz my doctor ...

c--MB, thanx for your interest in sepsis, a life-threatening disorder that is the number one cause of death worldwide, and the 3rd most common cause of death in the USA, when all sources of infection are taken in the aggregate. I am pleased to see your interest in medical progress. However, by the time you acquire sepsis, you'll be too delirious to ask your doctor any intelligent questions. Besides, "quizzing" your doctor in the usual --MB format of whining by means of sending a letter, would not be a timely approach, given the aggressiveness of the condition.

We recently completed a study on outcomes related to care of the morbidly obese critically ill patient, perhaps the first study of its kind in this growing patient population.
Your newly acquired interest in medical research might be better placed in this line of concern.
