Tony: So, AMD system bugs, whether from the CPU or any part of the infrastructure, can take longer to find. I'd rather let the huge user community out there do the debugging for me, and buy an Intel based system, say, 6 to 9 months after it's released. Kind of like not buying the first year of a new car model. Whatever way you look at it, the higher amount of AMD system problems reported on the net cannot be giving potential customers a warm fuzzy feeling. Buy Intel.
Remember that VIA southbridge bug recently? How come the Intellabees thought it was an AMD bug at first? No, I'm not referring to their inability to imagine a bug with an Intel-related system...
As you say, major OEMs do a lot more qual'ing that do white box makers and DIY'ers. However, this limits the exposure to new hardware! Thus, by your line of reasoning, AMD is exposed to many more hardware combinations than is Intel, forcing the conclusion that if you don't buy from a major OEM, you should buy AMD ;-).
