As you say, major OEMs do a lot more qual'ing that do white box makers and DIY'ers. However, this limits the exposure to new hardware! Thus, by your line of reasoning, AMD is exposed to many more hardware combinations than is Intel, forcing the conclusion that if you don't buy from a major OEM, you should buy AMD ;-).
I'll have to pull an Albert on this one. Huh??????
Well, on the last part, I do buy from majors, having been stung by junk from local white boxers. Where they foul up, in my experience, is in the simple stuff: connectors, mechanical fit, etc. Simple but it can totally ruin a PC. The majors are good at that stuff.
