Your original scenario called for a bottom in late December. I don't think there is enough time to resolve the exuberance here and get a retest and then a new bull market by end of December. I think we have to go through a distribution period here of head fakes, and then lower highs and then lower lows.

I think your alternative model called for a low in March or so, possibly a lower low. I find this one to make the most sense as the second year of a Presidential term marks bear market bottoms as I have stated previously.
