The old excuse is it saved thousands of our own men at the expense of many innocent civilians and children, and so it was justified, but Japan was already on the ropes at that point, so I cannot agree.

They where on the ropes, but it looked like they where planning to go down fighting. If dropping the bombs caused a surrender that otherwise would not have happened without an invasion then the A bombs saved Japanese lives as well as Americans.

If we had to drop the bombs to impress them to surrender, a far less populated area would have
been sufficient in my opinion to show the what we had and could do to them....


I guess its possible but they didn't surrender right after the first bomb and we had a very limited supply to use for demonstrations. If we had 20 or so bombs that would have been the way to go.
