Sounds like cherry picking

i must disagree. cherry picking, or data mining, occurs when one cites some isolated fact as proof of a broader observation or trend. the mere mentioning of the fact is not data mining; the crime occurs when one tries to draw larger conclusions from it.

in contrast, my statement about the NAREIT/Nasdaq pair trade was merely a historical observation, which i did not use to make any broader argument. (the trivia-buff nature of my statement should have been clear from the throwaway followup sentence: "just one of many records set in our great bubble economy.") it was just a statement like "summer fell on a tuesday last year," such as one might hear in london (except truer).

i sense you'd like to use the cherry picking term, but please wait til i provide a better entry point, which i'll try to do in the near future. then i will reward you with a well-deserved "touche!" acknowledgment.
