Karen, I was responding with a definition that included "especially belief in a personal God as creator" in response to your "Not all theists subscribe to a personal god."

Maybe instead of examine the definition of theist we should talk about the definition of "personal God" and whether or not belief in one includes belief in "a god who intervenes in their lives".

When I think of God intervening in my life, I think of it in a more theoretical sense. I don't look at anything and say "wow God intervened here", nor do I go around constantly hoping for divine intervention in my favor. (On the other hand if your reading this God, I have nothing against the idea...)
