Asian gold opens higher, firm ahead of BoE auction Updated Tues 11/26/2001 22:56 EDT


* Spot gold, edging higher ahead of Bank of England auction
later on Tuesday, chiefly on weakness in the U.S. dollar, but
traders said many Asian countries' currencies showing further
weakness which will dampen overall demand for gold;
* Technically, gold resilient in face of poor momentum,
hanging tough atop support band at US$270-US$273, analysts said;
* Spot gold <XAU=> opened in Hong Kong at US$272.90/3.40 an
ounce at 0100 GMT, higher than New York's last quoted
US$272.70/3.20;
* At 0230 GMT, spot gold was trading a notch higher at
US$273.00/3.50.
