I saw Rob Long once at a conference in Washington sponsored by National Review. He had been a writer for "Cheers", and had become Republican after the fall of the Berlin Wall. He related a story about visiting Reagan in his Century City offices, while the Gipper was still in pretty good shape. He was introduced, but could think of nothing to say but "Thank you, sir!", while vigorously shaking hands. Reagan looked at him with slight amusement, then said "You're welcome", as if it had all been a personal favor. It sounded like a lovely moment.

Even in Hollywood, Alec is not exactly at the center of things. The big action stars, like Arnold and Bruce, are Republican. Warms my heart.......
