:) A thing a friend says to me crossed my mind, "kindness begets kindness". Now, as a sometimes-cynic, I don't think it always does, but it's a good notion. Certainly deriding and calling names doesn't beget kindness, except maybe in those who agree with the names and derision.

But... I do wonder about the idea of a friend "smirking" at a friend. I just find smirking really annoying. And affectionate teasing is a long ways, or maybe a short hop, from "mildly insulting" a friend, or anyone else. Eek. I don't much care to hang out with people who insult me. And it doesn't take a great depth of sensitivity to expression to know when someone says something about your pants hanging down whether they are being insulting or teasing you with affection. The former means they really hate your pants and think you look stupid, the latter means they like ya just the way you are but can't help but laugh over your pants hanging down. Maybe that doesn't explain it well, but is the drift there?

And thanks to both you and TS for your responses yesterday about the MJ question. They made sense, even if I don't fully agree. :) I would pick someone like Donald Trump as self-absorbed and wanting an exact copy of himself. And someone who is cruel to children as someone not fit to have them.
