The left also is firmly dug in in the media and in very powerful special interest groups in D.C. that work behind the scenes.

Sure, they're less visible without the Clinton criminal enterprise in the White House, but they have firmly learned the lessons of Marxism -- working tirelessly behind the scenes. They will regroup and rise again, it's only a question of when.

They continually poke and prod for opportunities that they can turn into election issues -- witness the growing drumbeat over Ashcroft and military tribunals (they've even got some help from the right, ouch). They saw Bush's appointment of Ashcroft as a potential target when he was appointed, and have been pursuing that one since the election.

I think we will also see the Senate and the left promoting bad economic policy on purpose for the next year, hoping for a continued and worsening recession, so they can use "It's the economy, stupid" in 2002.
