A short, but provocative, response to my longer than usual one. (this is all Kholt's fault) hmm, yes there is a market. But what is the intention? And what are the implications? If drugs are legal, there are fewer hurtful implications. Less need to steal to support a habit. And is there ever any intent when one buys a drug to harm another? What is ever the intent of buying a nuke? There is only the thought of harming, or maybe or protecting thru showing you can nuke in return of being nuked.
But you bring up the point, or it comes up, that if you don't want a product sold... make it unattractive. I don't think we will ever make drugs unattractive to all. I think we could make weapons of mass destruction unattractive, or unneeded, to most except the hateful and outwardly destructive among us.
I don't think most, or many even, consider the people of Iraq to care to destroy the world, or America. But we do think Saddam wants that. Most people in Iraq probably want most people in Afganistan want... a quiet life. Some peace. Some security.
But does some people in any of those countries, or ours, using drugs that are legal and cheap to obtain hurt anyone but themselves and those who love them (like the families of alcoholics are hurt)? No. Does obtaining nukes hurt others? I would think so. Why obtain that unless you want to hurt a lot of others?
A market for nukes? yes.
So what do we do? |
