I doubt it. If there is no need for 64-bit on the desktop, why should Intel risk its Itanium strategy and introduce an x86-64-like extension for Pentium 4?

Good point... Of course, Intel could ultimately bring IA-64 to the desktop as well... although I don't foresee that until after 2005.
