Why would I believe what is not so? I hear no voice or voices. If you do hear it, that is a fact, not a belief. The belief part is your interpretation of the fact. Of course, if you have to take each "speaking" on its own merits, than you are uncertain of the voice, and if you are testing it against the general tenor of your beliefs, then it is very difficult to verify it as a "higher voice". A higher voice would presumably tell you something quite different from what you already think or know. But then, maybe the voice reflects what you know through faith, and therefore what originates in the Higher Power to begin with.

It is not difficult to see how you might dislike the God of the Old Testament........
