In truth, I believe that "Imaginary Friend" in the religious context isn't a euphemism at at. It would be a dysphemism. I didn't even know such a word existed until I started reading up on "euphemisms" as a result of our discussion. Both are rhetorical devices meant to persuade through rhetoric.
