I see your point, but I don't think so. The purpose of an euphemism is to express something in a relatively inoffensive way. If, for example, you were describing an ugly woman, you might say she is "plain." Fat women post personal adds that say "reubenesque." Neither term is a compliment. They are simply the nicest way to say it and still get the point across. You wouldn't say that an ugly woman was pretty or a fat woman buff. Those would be inaccurate. A euphemism isn't a lie, it's a softening. "Imaginary friend" is the softest way I could think of to express the idea. Would you prefer superstitious? I thought that harsher, which is why I used what I used, but I'm open to alternatives.
