I think the point is that beliefs may be pro-active and not merely simpering... The world has not become so PC that people can no longer discuss or express differences. I forget who said this quote: "the price of freedom is eternal vigilance". But I believe that vigilance is necessary for the survival of the human race... As religious groups massacre people in wars all over our planet...I will not humour their frigging imaginary friends. They are allowed to scoff at my agnosticism; and I am allowed to give blood to the simple bastards...
