I think your second paragraph says it all. The balance will survive into perpetuity. For a while folks like Huey Long can make a lot of noise in small places but the country is too big and too diverse now for that. Our Judo-Christian origins have ensured the sacred independent identity of the individual ever since the Magna Carta was imposed on a cavalier monarch.
