I feel that the disk drive is a commodity.
Its position in the market is weakened by
the "solid state" drives. My gut feel is that
the hard drive will be replaced by
silicon chips eventually.

Some of these companies actually make money from
the hard drive business. It's the new ventures
side of the house that is losing money. Perhaps
these companies are taking a hint from Intel's
refocus on profitability and cutting back on the
losing growth business?
