11/27 22:59 Intel Pentium 4 Supplies May Fall Short on PC Demand (Update1) By Alan Patterson quote.bloomberg.com Hong Kong, Nov. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Intel Corp., the biggest chipmaker, said it may be unable to meet demand for the Pentium 4 processor as sales of personal computers show signs of rebounding from the worst slump since 1985. ``You will see tighter supplies of the Pentium 4,'' Intel spokeswoman Evia Shum said in an interview in Hong Kong. ``We are trying to remedy a tight situation at the end of this quarter.'' Some PC makers will have to wait as Intel boosts output to meet demand for its latest processor, Shum said. She declined to give details on which types of the processor are in greatest demand or which customers are being put on hold. Taiwan PC makers, which account for more than half the world's production, reported shortages of the most powerful versions of the processor, the local media said today. The shortfall may benefit some Asian chipmakers, investors said. ``It's positive for companies like Via Technologies Inc. and others in Taiwan that make chipsets for the Pentium 4,'' said Alain Barbezat, who counts shares in Asian technology companies among the $500 million he helps manage at Darier Hentsch Asia Ltd. in Hong Kong.
