Cisco usually uses acquisitions as a surrogate for r&d, buying numerous smallish companies. This is far different than cpq's acquisition of large, mature companies like Tandem and DEC.

Imo, the proposed HP/CPQ merger would be a disaster for the shareholders of both firms. Carly is showing symptoms of the Eckhard Pfiffer Disease.
