OMD -

Your experience at LAX demonstrate what is wrong with the current approach to airport security. It's just unbelieveable that someone would break a kid's toy based on the assumption that it could be used to hide explosives. Hell, if someone was going to try to smuggle explosives onto a plane, I suspect there are better ways to do it than hiding it in a toy being carried by a six-year-old boy.

I'd suggest you take a few minutes to draft up a letter of complaint to the Presidents of the airline (UAL?) and the security company. It probably won't do much good, but might give you the satisfaction of knowing that you tried to rattle their cages.
