Well, you know, it seems to me that there was so much publicity already on the airwaves about "Mike" and his likely fate that flat denial was not a tenable or realistic option under the circumstances. So what choice is left? Confirm or deny, disclose or don't disclose, reveal or keep secret, delay or make it immediately available...there's no satisfying those who want to read something into this situation one way or another. They're not gonna be happy with anything, and everything is evidence of something sinister.

I just think the reality is all much more mundane and pedestrian than most people seem to want to believe...i.e., we have a sea of confusion and semi-conflicting aims punctuated with flashes of briefly organized competence here and there.
