Here is a short, interesting piece on the Elliot controllers as they "parcel out the constant stream of F-100s,F-4s, and A-1s FL, you are right...the eliots were based in kontum...they lived behind SF B-team #24 near the runway. they had a neat club..in the bar, they mounted a commode on a platform and used it for rice wine or punch. i am not positive where the nails were based...we also got snakes (cobras) never knew for sure where they came from either...but i thought pleiku. we got our spookies and most fast movers from your base. F4s and A1Es were always available to us...never saw an F100 do close air support. eliots also suported the forward brigade of the 4th infantry division at LZ marylou just outside kontum...past the SOG base (CCC) and across the river. i had a cousin there. you probably remember the USAF (at least i think it was USAF) hospital off the runway at pleiku...i got 10 days R&R there. did you ever go over to the SF camp...C company...or to the Mike Force club in pleiku? they were very close to the USAF base. btw, we were there at the same time. uw
