I believe it was even simpler than that and the property should have been killed before $100,000 spent. As I noted on a few occasions, quartzite is not a favorable host for a gold deposit. The fracture pattern is the most important variable to understand. At Luichio, the gold rich surface showings occurred in the larger fractures. These larger irregularly trending (another clue, as I noted) fractures, should have been trenched or saw cut perpendicular to the strike of the dominant fracture set. Then the fracture pattern distal to the known mineralization could have been mapped. Odds are, in a quartzite, the density and width of fractures decrease rapidly as you move away from the larger gold rich fracture. Again, as noted, the trenching PFG did seemed to me to along the strike of the fractures and proved nothing.

The gold deposited at Luicho is structurally controlled but Shrake didn't figure out what event caused the structure (fractures) in this sedimentary unit.

Proving that the gold rich fractures existed down dip was the best part of the promotion due to the fact that if you don't know the fracture pattern on surface then you can't assume anything about the fractures in the third dimension. That's how they got to 6 million ounces and blew their credibility. It was bad geology and bad thinking by a geologist who made some bad assumptions.
