PT, I would suggest running the memory diagnostic memtest86 version 2.8 available from memtest86.com
I found that my system would give errors with CAS set to 2, even though I wasn't getting any crashes.

Each time you make a change to your system, rerun it and see if the errors go away.

A quicker test is to run Super-Pi after each change. It's pretty sensitive to errors, but not as good as memtest86. Look on download.com for Super-Pi.

As for cooling, problems can occur even on a lowly system, like my son's 650 MHz Duron PC. It was booting successfully only every 3rd time it was turned on and I thought the venerable FIC-11 motherboard was dying. But after blowing the wads of dust out of the heatsink, it ran like new again.
