Hi frank,

I sold half my Tesco today, dumped some old baggage too, tax loss before the herd in case I'm wrong about the lack of tax loss selling this year. I was actually up very nicely for a while with Kinross, KOB, both gassy trusts, and some other stuff. It settled down though to just a really nice day.
ALMOST bought BBDa and NT for a trade this AM, phew!! :o)

re: the Margolis article:
1 - I don't see the advantage re: oil of controlling Afghanistan
2 - Russia already has Iran to get oil to the Gulf
3 - I would think the US will be Russia's best customer so ????
4 - the Saudi supplies aren't going away so having both Russia and the Arabs can only be good for consumers.
5 - if Russia wants to sell to China .. go overland or tanker, again through Iran.
6 - Iran also has a vested interest in settling the Iraq issue.

Seems to me the only issue for Afghanistan is to ensure it doesn't become a giant petri dish for growing terrorists again. Seems like there really is no choice but to add Iraq to the menu.

Some not so cuddly thoughts.
regards
Kastel

EDIT: If Pakistan cannot mend its fences with India it could be left out in the cold. Russia being chummy with Afghanistan will have more impact upon them than anyone else.
