Iraq Says It'll Defeat U.S. Attack

CAIRO, Egypt (AP)--Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan said Wednesday Iraq would repulse a U.S. attack, hinting Baghdad would respond with missiles against Israel.

``Any unjust aggression to be carried out by the American administration will bring evil consequences on America,'' Ramadan said in an interview in Baghdad with the Qatari satellite channel Al-Jazeera.

When asked if a U.S. strike would prompt Iraq to fire missiles at Israel, as it did during the 1991 Gulf War, he responded:

``The country which faces an aggression cannot be deprived by anyone in the world of using any means for self-defense ... it is a legitimate right,'' Ramadan replied.

On Monday President Bush who warned Iraq of unspecified consequences if it were producing weapons of mass destruction. Bush said Iraqi President Saddam Hussein should allow U.N. arms inspectors to return ``to prove to the world he's not developing weapons of mass destruction.''

Asked what would happen if Saddam refused, Bush replied: ``He'll find out.''
