Jim, Thanks for system testing suggestions. I downloaded the memtest86 v28 but then had to laugh when it wanted a floppy disk to install on... this system has never had a floppy drive so I will need to go borrow one from another system. <g>

I was unable to locate super-pi at downloads.com or zdnet. I found a web site that had a couple of pi calculating programs but they don't seem able to trip up a system crash.

I agree with the potential problems from inadequate cooling and the perils of dust balls. The system is relatively clean and the socket temps reported are in line with those from this summer (lower due to non-overclocked and lower environmental temps).

Will keep working forward and try the memtest86 after I secure the FDD.
