AMD volume ramp plans at risk: JPM (AMD) By Tomi Kilgore

Analyst Eric Chen at J.P. Morgan H&Q believes Advanced Micro Devices s[: amd] is experiencing "some difficulty" stabilizing its 0.13um process technology, putting its plan for volume ramp of 0.13um Athlon processors in the first quarter next year at risk. "The potential pushback of the volume ramp may bear incremental negative impacts on gross margin and market share," Chen said in a note to clients. "It could potentially further weaken the competitive position of the company, with regard to both cost and performance." He doesn't think this will result in "meaningful" downside in financial results for the current quarter, but does feel there is risk to AMD's first quarter, "or even longer." The stock closed Wednesday down 59 cents at $13.21. Chen recommends investors trim positions in the shares.
