Also people are missing that Joe consumer is not putting any money into the stock market. They are instead buying homes, not stocks. They learned their lesson. Most of Joe consumers bought at much much higher prices hoping stocks will keep going up for ever. Then they bought again in January on the bear rally and got burned. That was it. Since then, Joe Consumer's money has been going into real assets like buying homes which is the only part of the economy that has done well.
