In 1995-96, AMAT was emerging but still part of the semi-equip pack. In 2005, AMAT will be considered the number one technology company and will be accorded a much higher multiple than 16. The 35 multiple might still be high, but I think 25-30 is reasonable if long term interest rates hold close to current levels.

The cyclicality will be hard to deal with... but AMAT is coming out as the next GE or MSFT for its industry. Perhaps the zero debt makes up for the cyclicality?

At $40, AMAT actually looks cheap compared to GE, MSFT, Intel and CSCO on this chart quicken.com

I don't own any GE or CSCO... but I do hold the others.
