Much as I hate getting back into this, I don't think identifying something as a military tactic legitimizes it as one. Some military tactics have been condemned by the international community as illegitimate. The set of legitimate military tactics is a proper subset of the set of all military tactics.

Nor do I think dispassionately discussing the legitimacy (or not) of particular acts, current or historic, is unpatriotic or foolish. In fact, such discussions are at the core of our democracy.

Can't we remain rational here?

JMHO.
