I've been thinking for the past while of supplementing my Alberta Health Care with US Non-Resident private health insurance.

I'm only interested in major care (i don't mind waiting 6 months for a Canadian knee specialist).

Anyone have any thoughts? Advice on a good carrier?

There are currently 151 people on the waiting list for heart surgery in Alberta. The only way to get moved up the list is to have a massive heart attack and need emergency care.

Lately an MRI and Radiology clinic from Las Vegas has been heavily advertising in Calgary. A Calgary man paid $2000 for the scan that found major heart disease. He was placed at the end of the list for heart surgery (a 6 mth wait). He had the procedure done 2 weeks later at a Montana hospital. He paid $37,000 US (Alberta health care covered $4200)

Regards,
Jay
