<Seriously, though, in America it's not uncommon for people of Irish descent whose parents came over in the 19th century to still hate the British for the way they treated the Irish Catholics for centuries.>

No wonder Irish jokes remain popular. It obviously doesn't occur to these intellectual whizzes that there are no people alive from the 19th century to blame for what happened in the 18th century.

You think "the Irish" have the right to "throw the British out"? But what if the majority want to remain part of Britain? I suppose Americans are still fixated by Paul Revere, so support bombing children and other innocent people in Omagh and the Tower of London in a battle for freedom against the evil 18th century British.

Nice euphemism for murder, "throw"!

Your argument is Osama's argument. Osama is throwing the Americans out of Saudi Arabia and Palestine, but did a better job of murdering more people than the IRA have done. He doesn't have a ballot box to work through, so he used your Plan B. Unlike your "occupying and army and police force", but like the IRA, he carried the bombing to the home ground and the public in the USA and from around the world.

It would be good if Americans could understand the similarity, but 'our' terrorists always seem to hold a strange allure as "freedom fighters" so I expect Americans will continue to be puzzled that many people around the world have contempt for Americans and some want to kill them even though they are so cute and cuddly and their terrorists and bombers don't mean to kill children, it's just what happens with collateral damage, as Tim McVeigh pointed out in his 'freedom fight'.
