Northern Alliance as bad as Taliban: RAWA

Revolutionary Women Association of Afghanistan today demanded immediate installation of a popular Government in the war-ravaged country with former King Zahir Shah as its head to ensure stability and dismissed claims that women were 'secure' in the changed situation.
"Northern Alliance is as bad as the barbaric and fundamentalist Taliban and the immediate solution lies in the installation of a popular Government to be headed by former King Zahir Shah," representative of the Association's Foreign Affairs Committee Sahar Saba said here.

Replying to felicitations accorded by the CPI(M)'s women's wing 'Ganatantrik Mahila Samity', Saba, who fled to India through Quetta in Pakistan from Kabul recently, said her organisation would neither support the Northern Alliance nor the Taliban to run the administration.

"Women's rights are still being violated in Afghanistan ever since the fall of Kabul and other important cities in the country to the Northern Alliance, and we are not safe at all," she said.

Saba alleged that media was "wrongly projecting" that women's rights had been restored in Afghanistan with the defeat of the Taliban.

"Media reports are baseless and most of the women are still scared to come out of homes," she added.

* I personally have a feeling the should the King return, he will not be allowed to live long.
