GPRS stumbles in Sweden

(30/11/2001, BWCS Staff) According to reports on financial news channel Bloomberg, consumers in Sweden are not
rushing to sign up for GPRS services despite the fact that all three mobile network operators are offering free
connection to the internet. The news service quotes Anders Maazon, the CEO of Swedish retailer Geab The
Phonehouse, as the source of the bad news.

Tele2, Europolitan and Telia began offering free web access via GPRS phones in Sweden three weeks ago in a bid to
increase demand, so far, however, Bloomberg says this has had little impact. Lack of services and poor supply of
handsets have been blamed for the low take up. In particular the fact that Nokia has only made one style of GPRS
handset available in Sweden is thought to have had a negative effect on initial demand.
