re: South Korea 3G Spectrum Allocated

>> South Korea Allocates 3G Spectrum

Cellular News
Noveber 30, 1001

South Korea's Ministry of Information and Communication has imposed a judgment and allocated the 3G spectrum bands to the license holders. SK Telecom is getting its coveted 1940-1960MHz (B) band, while KT ICOM gets the 1960-1980MHz (C) band and LG Telecom was left with the 1920-1940MHz (A) band.

SK Telecom has been lobbying for the B band claiming that it needs it to support roaming DoCoMo customers. However, the company also claimed that if it had been awarded the A band, then interference from nearby Japan's KDDI network would have reduced its available spectrum by a third.

The Ministry claimed that the allocation would minimize interference and maintains its policy of promoting cdma2000 1x technology but in press reports, LG Telecom was complaining about the allocation, saying that it would be disadvantaged. <<
