Would that were true. Unfortunately for recent example, the $43 million the US sent directly to the Taliban four months before their attack on the WTC belies that statement. Do you really believe the Talibs used that for control of opium production? There is a litany of initiatives by the US that supports "freedome fighters" that later become "terrorists", depending on whose side you're on. It's a close call whether the Saudis or the US funds more terrorism, each under different rationale. Rather distasteful thought, but there it is. If you include US oil $$ and illegal drug consumption, it's the US, hands down, by an order of magnitude.

If we avoid M.E. oil and decriminalize drugs it only be the more ordinary capitalism at work creating democracies, which seems to be less prone to produce combat, right? Seems that way, anyway, w. the statements you hear such as "democracies never war w. each other" and "never have a famine".

Some, (like me, perhaps ad naseum) argue that geysers of money and military support have been out of control since WWII, promoted by both honorable (few) and self-interested (many) in gov't and industry. What fuels this is excessive complacency by the American people for high taxes and gov't secrecy at all levels under the guise of "nat'l security", which in fact is just the reverse.
