- The US did not sponsor Osama or Al-Qaeda, or even the Taliban, unless you count US humanitarian aid as a sponsership of the current government in the country were the aid is distributed. Its been well established that the CIA and ISI (Pakistan) sponsored, trained and financed Bin Laden and the Taliban to fight the Russians in Afghanistan. Pakistan is still interested in having the Taliban represented in the new govt. since they are the only ones friendly with Pakistan.
