He's talking about Enhanced Messaging services. Still using the data channel of SS7 to squeez more data on it. EMS will not see the light of the day. It is MMS, which has nothing to do with SMS. The realationship between SMS and MMS is to point to the operators that the success of MMS could be compared to the sucess of SMS.
