Though I appreciate most of your points, the comparison of a PI with benzodiazepine is not very pertinent, as the reason for doctors and patients to switch PIs is not a result of fashion or preference, but rather one of efficacy---all PIs, so far, become ineffective over time. The virus mutates and needs a new weapon to be controlled.

And, if the best case scenario results, and the virus goes into remission, then the PI is no longer necessary.
